Calvin's doctrine of predestination teaches that God in eternity past established the course of all future events from the molestation of a child to a rocket trip to the moon. Making the world better, one answer at a time. Outside of Geneva, without the force of the state to impose one version, Calvinism itself splintered into factions. Calvinists also believe that "God's divine providence [has] selected, elected, and predestined certain people to restore humanity and reconcile it with its Creator."7 These "Elect" were originally thought to be the only people going to Heaven.

No good works were required: the immense fortune of the Church was the prize of apostasy: political and religous independence allured the kings and princes: the abolition of tithes, confession, fasting, and other irksome obligations attracted the masses. This historic Arminianism is committed to the depravity of man, the necessity of grace and the supremacy of God’s holy character in all of its aspects; sovereignty, love, righteousness, justice and goodness, etc. To make these observations is not to propose that modern capitalism was somehow constructed upon a “Catholic ethic.” That would be equally false.

Now that we understand what makes a Church schimsatic let's deal with what make a Church Protestant: Protestant: A church not in communion with the Roman Catholic Church AND the sacramental ordination of its bishops are so heretical or broken, that the RCC doesn't consider the ordination of those bishops to be valid. Ignatius was a bishop at the beginning of the second century (right after the apostle John died in exile on Patmos) and he was martyred during the first half of that century.
