I’ll show you mine if you show me yours

Posted by moo  Published in eBay, Gazette, Jenny, TPBCo, Twin Peaks, Twin Peaks Festival

Well furniture shopping turned out to be a bust. No surprise there. If my life isn’t in some state of disarray or at least mild dishevelment at all times, things would be no fun. And that makes baby Jesus cry.

I’m debating whether to head out tomorrow to disappoint myself further. We’ll see if I have any strength left after grocery shopping and sifting through the massive boxes of crap FedEx dropped on my doorstep yesterday.

What’s in the boxes, you ask? Why, I’ll tell you! As if I hadn’t already planned on doing so!

eBay stuff. That’s what’s in ’em. And not just any old eBay stuff. Twin Peaks eBay stuff. And not just any old Twin Peaks eBay stuff. RARE Twin Peaks eBay stuff.

I could go on like this for hours.

After being alerted to a cool eBay auction by some random snotnosed brat on the Gazette, I put in a bid on it and another auction by the same seller. Both were large lots of Twin Peaks magazines, books, and other trinkets. I usually handle the prizes for the festival, so I’m always on the lookout for shit like this. I figured between the two auctions I’d end up with a handful of good prizes, which is well worth what I paid for the whole shebang.

Little did I know that these auctions were packed with AWESOMENESS.

The person to whom the collections used to belong was apparently a very very VERY rabid Peaksfan, and as such he gathered all that he could find on the show, the movie, the fandom…there are four manilla folders filled two inches thick with old newspaper articles and photos. That alone made me drool. I’ve been dying to do a history on the festival, and this pile of articles contained all I could want and more. There’s also a good number of mint-condition rare magazines and lobby cards (most of which I already own, so these will be GREAT prizes!) and two surprises…both of them these rare books from Japan that I’ve been trying to get my hands on for years. I’m thinking that will be my finder’s fee for snagging such cool shit for the fest.

I do kinda wish I had someone here with me to share in the unpacking and discovery. Like if Jenny were there, we’d be throwing the packing material around and I would be like “Ohmigod lookit this!” and she’d be like “That’s sweet!” and I’d be like “Dude, totally.” and then we’d start quoting lines from the show. Fucking yeah.

Huh.

What kind of person lovingly collects all this stuff for years and years…only to sell it on eBay down the road? Hopefully not a DEAD person. That would kinda suck and make me evil and morbid. But now I’m wondering…should I try to contact this guy and ask him? I find it just a curious, curious thing. I think even if I ended up hating the show in fifteen years, I wouldn’t get rid of my stuff. Just on plain principle more than anything else. Do you know how hard collecting is? Ffft.

For those of you who actually care about Peaks, once I’m done sifting through everything, I’m going to scan in all the articles and make them available on the Brewing Co. Because everyone loves pieces of history. Everyone. Even you. Admit it.
