Guess who got front-row seats to see Chris Isaak in May? First four seats on the center aisle, even.
Who know that one man could instantaneously turn around years of bad concert-ticket-buying karma?
I played Ticketmaster like a sadistic bitch, camping out on the site starting at fifteen minutes before on-sale time, and then refreshing the page every five seconds starting at a minute ’til. As soon as that page went live, I used my 106wpm typing skillz to fly through the rigmarole of tier selection, quantity, and grotesquely challenging CAPTCHAÂ until the system gave me precisely what I’d been hoping for: cherry seats dropped directly into my happy lap for an unbelievably minute amount of effort.
I think I can partly forgive Depeche Mode for their little presale blunder. And today’s ticket purchase WIN just goes to further support my assertion that the practice and notion of presale tickets is bullshit and wrong and needs to be discontinued. Honestly, it’s not even remotely right. Especially if you’re not going to reserve a batch of excellent seats for selling when on-sale starts. It’s not fair to the general public. Not everyone should have to join a fan club or hold a certain credit card to be able to get great seats to the band they love. Don’t hold that shit over peoples’ heads like that. Stop being such a crass bunch of cocksuckers. The tickets are going to sell regardless. Don’t be greedy.
May Fair Cometh
I should mention that Chris Isaak is playing at the Dixon May Fair this year, which is how I found out about him AND how I was able to get such good seats. Most artists who play the May Fair don’t engage in presale shenanigans, so there was winning going on from all sides. (though I got my really decent B-52’s tickets last year because of presale, so. Um. Whatev.)
So that means that yup…it’s that time of year again. My contract has been signed and returned to the office, my vacation has been added to my boss’s calendar, and my school schedule has been slightly massaged to relegate all homework/exams/projects to the first and third weeks of May. Because I’ll be back in the saddle with me mum that entire second week of the month, and hopefully there will be just that many more incredible podunk town fairtime madness stories to share this year. (Guess I should finally get those archives up so you have prior year stories to refer back to)
It’s going to be kind of weird this year with Kevin and Morgan not around. Well, Kevin’s coming up for the weekend to go to the concert with me and Cutter. But I mean in general…the boys always joined us at the building to help out with stuff after school, much in the same way that I helped out after school when I was a teenager. It’s a reminder once again of how damn old I’m getting and how things, no matter how badly I want them, will never remain the same.
Changing Things Up
I’ve been tooling around with a new template design for my site. I love the colors and the general concept of this design that I currently have, but it just feels kind of bland to me. The color scheme I’ve always wanted can be seen here, so that should give you an idea of how I ended up with my current template. I have an entire folder of replacement templates that I’ve been fiddling with when I can find a spare minute, and it’s taking me a while because I keep trying to emulate that color scheme. So just a word of warning…you may start to see some schizophrenic template-changing going on in the next couple of months. Maybe even multiple changes in the same day. Not sure. But you’ve been warned. So Firefox users, put away your angry quill pens and go load up some more useless add-ons. Everything will be OK eventually.
