What’s the use of studying?

You can’t even begin to imagine my total elation over my Forestry exam results. I logged into the Forestry website and both class exams were posted, so I checked…and sure enough, there were two very high test scores, typically what you’d call an A (damn near an A+ actually).

And then I saw the curve. My A scores were actually considered B’s on this curve. I almost died.

Ok, first I have to explain how Professor Lemerise does his tests. He has the tests contain more than 100 points so that it’s possible for a person to miss a few questions and still score well. He even has in his instructions that if you don’t know something, leave it blank so you don’t lose points.

This means that it really is possible to score over 100% every time. Which isn’t a problem. If you can get them all right, kudos to you and yours! What I don’t like is the fact that Professor Lemerise curves UP from 100. Who the fuck does that? I mean, really. WHO?! I thought the whole point of a curve was to lower the grade ranges to accommodate the skill level of the class?

I’m actually furious about this. My grade in both classes should be an A. Instead, I’m pulling a B. A fucking B. Because some assnut blew the curve by getting over 100% on all the exams. I don’t get it. I really really don’t. How are you helping people by RAISING the curve? No, seriously. Grading on a curve is lame anyway. We already know that. But raising the fucking curve? Could you slap people in the face just a little more?!

One of my grades is dangerously close to becoming an A while the other is definitely a solid B. Which means I’m going to have to get a perfect score on each of my finals to even have a snowball’s chance in hell of getting the grade I actually deserve.
